Benjamin Mendy chased by Manchester City stewards who thought he was pitch invader after Liverpool win
Injured Manchester City defender Benjamin Mendy was chased by stewards who thought he was a pitch invader after their 2-1 win over Liverpool on Thursday.
Mendy has been recovering from knee surgery but that did not stop him from joining in the celebrations at full-time following the win at the Etihad.
The only problem was that stewards chased him onto the pitch as the defender embraced Sergio Aguero mistaking him for a pitch invader, but quickly realised who it was before tackling him to the ground.
The France international later posted a picture of himself and Aguero on Twitter saying: “Love you more than your wife bro @10sergioaguerokun.”
Mendy also retweeted a video of the steward chasing him with the words “bro was about to tackle me”.
In the absence of the defender, French centre-back Aymeric Laporte was forced to fill in at left-back in a new-look City defence. Oleksander Zinchenko was dropped from the team following their win over Southampton.
City closed the gap on league leaders Liverpool to just four points after their 2-1 win at home.
