Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson ‘sad’ to see what happened to Loris Karius in Champions League final

Alisson says he was saddened by what happened to Loris Karius at Liverpool, despite now being in possession of the no.1 shirt.

Karius, now on loan at Besitkas, took much of the blame for the club’s 3-1 Champions League final defeat to Real Madrid, which ultimately led to his departure.

Liverpool then signed Alisson from Roma in a £67million deal and he has provided stability at the back.

However, he admits to having mixed emotions if his team score as a result of a goalkeeper error.

“Even when my team scores after a big mistake from the opposition keeper, its a different feeling for me,” he told Four Four Two magazine.

“I don’t celebrate it like any other goal,” he added.

“I know what goes through the mind of a goalkeeper in those kind of moments.

“I was so sad to see what happened to Karius – it could have happened to anyone.”

Liverpool currently top the Premier League and have conceded just 10 goals all season, with Alisson keeping 12 clean sheets.

Despite the promising start In August, though, Jurgen Klopp revealed he almost didn’t sign Alisson due to the strong criticism Karius faced in May.

“The Champions League final had nothing to do with us getting Alisson. Even if he had won it and Alisson would have been on the market we would have still signed him,” he explained.

“And how the people reacted negatively to Karius after the final, by trying to isolate him, that almost made me not sign Alisson and rather stick it out with Karius. But we had to be professional, our job is to have the best players on every position.”
