Liverpool news: Arjen Robben says Bayern Munich have ‘worst possible Champions League draw’ ahead of last 16 clash

Arjen Robben has admitted his Bayern Munich side have been given “perhaps the worst possible draw” in the last 16 of the Champions League having been paired with Liverpool.

The two European giants will go head-to-head next month in what has been billed as one of the ties of the round.

And former Chelsea winger Robben has heaped praise on Jurgen Klopp’s men – insisting last year’s runner-ups are the favourites to win the competition.

He told  football-oranje.com: “Liverpool is doing well again, just like last year when they made it to the final, and I also see them as a favourite for the Champions League victory this season.

”For us, it was perhaps the worst possible draw, but it’s going to be a great challenge, we have to look at ourselves, keep working hard and improve ourselves.

“If we have a good day and play the way we want, I’m sure we’ll make it very difficult for Liverpool.”

Robben also reserved special praise on his fellow Dutchman Virgil van Dijk, who has been a revelation in defence for the Reds since his world-record £75m move from Southampton last January.

He added: “I do not know if he is the best defender in the world, but other people are allowed to judge that, but I’m happy for him.

“He has made big strides lately, just look where he comes from.

“He is a key player at a gigantic club, and he is the captain of the Dutch national team.

“He deserves all the compliments.”

Robben, who will turn 35 this month, will leave Bayern at the end of the season when his contract expires ending a 10-year association with the Bundesliga giants.
