Liverpool transfer news: Who is Abdulkadir Omur? The playmaker dubbed the ‘Turkish Messi’ and a target for Jurgen Klopp
Liverpool have had a blistering start to the season, winning 17 of their opening 21 fixtures, but last week they hit a stumbling block with their first league defeat to Manchester City.
Jurgen Klopp will be hoping the loss is just a minor blip in their momentum, but he may wish to add to his ranks this month to ensure they have the depth necessary to push for the Premier League crown.
One reported target for the Reds is Turkish teen sensation Abdulkadir Omur.
The 19-year-old has been a revelation for Turkish side Trabzonspor this term and has been dubbed the ‘Turkish Messi‘ for his ability on the ball.
He moved through the ranks last season for the Super Lig side but this term has seen him become a crucial member of the first team – having notched up two goals and two assists for his side.
But who is Abdulkadir Omur? talkSPORT.com wanted to know more about the man who is one of Liverpool’s top targets this month.
How does he play?
Omur is a versatile player – making him appealing for Jurgen Klopp.
The Turk’s natural position is as a central midfielder, so he would be able to provide competition for Klopp’s midfield trio.
He can also play in the No.10 role behind the front men – so if signed Klopp could change his formation to accommodate the use of an attacking midfielder.
Omur can find the back of the net too, having netted six goals in 46 appearances for Trabzonspor, but his ability to get goals will surely improve with coaching.
Liverpool aren’t the only team chasing his signature too, with Manchester City also reportedly tracking the progress of the midfielder according to The Sun.
What is being said?
Omur, speaking to CNN Turk, admitted it would be an honour to play in the Premier League.
He said: “Liverpool are a great club, one of the greatest in the world. These offers are something Trabzonspor need to discuss.
“If the club give the go-ahead, talks can be held. The club’s interests take precedence. I’ll do whatever is in the club’s best interests. If the club say leave, I’ll leave. If they say stay, I’ll stay.
“We are having a great season. We are in the title race and on course to make the Turkish Cup final.”
Klopp is reportedly weighing up a £27million move for the wonderkid.
Paddy Power recently slashed odds on him making the transfer from 8/1 to 9/2, increasing the speculation on his future.
