Jim Reynolds in veloce solitaria sul Fitz Roy in Patagonia
L’alpinista statunitense Jim Reynolds ha effettuato una veloce salita in solitaria del Fitz Roy, salendo e scendendo lungo la lunga via Afanassieff, tutto in arrampicata libera.
Lo statunitense Jim Reynolds sta suscitando molto scalpore durante il suo primo viaggio in Patagonia, dove ha realizzato un’impressionante salita in solitaria del Fitz Roy lungo la via Afanassieff. Noto soprattutto per aver stabilito un record di velocità su The Nose con Brad Gobright nel 2017, Reynolds ha trascorso tre mesi in Patagonia durante nei quali ha effettuato una serie di salite in solitaria prima del raidsulla parete nordovest del Fitz Roy in soli 15,5 ore.
Aperta nel 1979 in 6 giorni di scalata dagli alpinisti francesi Guy Abert, Jean e Michel Afanassieff e Jean Fabre, la via a sinistra della famosa Supercanaleta viene ripetuta raramente e con i suoi quasi 1600 metri di dislivello è riconosciuta come una delle più lunghe nel massiccio.
Il 25enne Reynolds ha impiegato soltanto 6 ore e 38 minuti per raggiungere la vetta alle 15:13 e poi ha effettuato la lunga discesa lungo lo stesso itinerario, durante la quale ha scelto di non calarsi mai in cordadoppia; è sceso disarrampicando su tutta la via. Secondo la rivistaNational Geographicche ieri per primo ha portato la notizia, Reynolds aveva dimenticato il suo imbrago e lil freno per assicurarsi, ma comunque si è portato via la corda per ogni evenienza.
Parlando con National Geographic, il grande esperto della Patagonia Rolando Garibotti ha dichiarato: “È incredibile che questo sia accaduto, Jim quiha lasciatoun grande segno. Parleremo di questo per molto, molto tempo. Faccio fatica a pensare come qualcuno riuscirà ad alzare l’asticella ulteriormente.”
