The Reds had victory snatched away after the siren, with a last-gasp Blues penalty stealing a 25-25 draw at Suncorp Stadium.

After leading by 10 points heading into the final 10 minutes, the Reds found themselves at the mercy of the referee’s whistle with the 82nd minute penalty giving Ihaia West the decisive penalty shot.

The Reds looked focused in their first home match since Richard Graham’s departure, with centre Samu Kerevi sending an early message with a huge inside hit in the opening minute.

The Blues were on the board first in the 10th minute when Super Rugby debutant and Sevens star Reiko Ioane found a gap and set up flyhalf West for a try under the posts.

The Reds  hit back almost instantly, they hit back within three minutes through a spectacular Chris Feauai-Sautia try, streaking away after collecting a Jake McIntyre high ball.

The Blues showed off their attacking flare exploiting a major overlap and it was scrum half Bryn Hall who put on the jets, running away for their second try of the night.

Queensland continued to fight, showing a return of the girt that had been absent in recent home matches.

The Reds forward pack once again asserted their dominance in the scrum, led by tight head veteran Greg Holmes, winning eight penalties as the Blues were constantly penalised for collapsing.

For the first time this season the Reds embraced their attack with the likes of Kerevi, Eto Nabuli and Karmichael Hunt given room the move at were at their best.

The Reds ran wild in the second, crossing the line twice in 10 minutes through Kerevi and Jake McIntyre.

Nabuli had a breakout game for his new side, as he broke tackles, ran hard and set up tries, making 94 run metres and four tackles busts.

The halves pairing of Frisby and McIntyre had their most promising performance, with the young nine and 10 growing in confidence with every match.

The Reds have an eight-day turnaround before facing interstate rivals NSW Waratahs at Suncorp Stadium next Sunday.
