9th edition of FIVB Women’s Club World Championship: 100 % European final

Hope you have all enjoyed this weekend scattered with volleyball competitions, whether they were finals of national championship or FIVB Women’s World Championship 2015. Here is a short review of what happened yesterday in Zurich.

Eczacibasi Istanbul managed to crush one more time the hosting team of Volero, leading the score to 3-0 overall this season in favour of Turkish team. It seems that ‘taking off’ with an unexpected loss against The Japanese team of Hisamitsu could be the key to a successful further course. Nevertheless, hosts never once gave up and put up a great fight on the court; the score speaks for itself: 25-17, 25-22, 18-25, 34-32. Olesia Rykhliuk topped the scorer’s charts with 28 points and gets a good chance to break Ekaterina Gamova’s scoring record: 85 points in 2014 (for Dynamo Kazan). Volero have a good chance to their first bronze medal, and first in club’s history, if they manage to win this time against Brazilians from Rexona-Ades. The game is scheduled for 12:30 local time.

This year’s edition the final will be 100 % European. This is the second time in the history of the competition when two European teams are playing finals, after Dinamo Krasnodar managed to claim a four sets victory over favourites Rexona-Ades. It seems odd, but Dinamo started the competition with a shameful three sets’ loss against Turkish champions of Eczacibasi, only to get their job done through the finals and, who knows, perhaps the ‘return game’.

Both finals are a ‘remake’ of earlier pool games, which adds a little bit more thrill over today’s matches: Volero Zürich against Rexona-Ades for bronze medal, starting at 12:30 local time, Eczacibasi Vitra Istanbul against Dinamo Krasnodar, scheduled for 15 o’clock.
