Polish champion beaten by Delecta

Last round of PlusLiga was quite interesting. Resovia Rzeszow lost the battle for 3 points and Jastrzebski Wegiel stood against Skra Belchatow.

Zaksa Kedzierzyn opened this round together with AZS Olsztyn. The favourite was only one, but AZS did not give this up easily. It was a good performance of both teams. Strong wings of Olsztyn were a bit of trouble for Zaksa, but the hosts kept better quality of the game during every finish of the set. Dominik Witczak replaced Antonin Rouzier from the beginning and he showed high skills and scored 15 points. On the press conference, Pawel Zagumny said: “it was a tough game, because lately we’ve been rather travelling than focusing on the training. However, our audience could enjoy today’s game, I guess. Fortunately, we didn’t make many mistakes, so the victory is ours.”

The other match was held between two teams without any points (at that time). AZS Czestochowa has not managed to win even a set. Trefl Gdansk also has been through some bad experience lately. There was no division of points, Trefl Gdansk took home the whole field. They did it with a great support of Mateusz Mika who did a great job by scoring 20 points. AZS was left behind with on set on their account. They still have to play without Dawid Murek, who is badly injured (his break will last for a couple of months). Marek Kardos, head coach of AZS is trying to stay positive: “I know we have some hard time, but I really love this team and I believe in us”.

Jakub Bednaruk, head coach of AZS Politechnika Warszawa has every reason to be proud and happy. Before season they were expected to be rather on the bottom of ranking. Now they have four victories out of five meetings and they earned third position of PlusLiga. Their last game was another success. Effector Kielce tried to stand up against their opponent with power of Danger and Penchev, but in the end the team of hosts committed to many mistakes. Jakub Bednaruk summed up this way: “I am most satisfied with this result. As always, we had some problems in the third set and we have to keep working on these moments of weakness”.

Effector Kilece – AZS Warszawa 1:3 (20:25, 23:25, 25:22, 23:25)
MVP: Fabian Drzyzga

The game of Jastrzebski Wegiel and Skra Belchatow was the most awaited meeting of this week. Belchatow started this fight a bit wiser and more efficiently, but Michal Kubiak, the great hero of that day, helped his team to catch up and than won this first part. The next two sets were quite short. Firs, Skra killed Jastrzebie with Atanasijevic and after that there was a huge pay back from Jastrzebie, who beat Skra 25:12. The last part was the most exciting one. The leading was changing from one side to another, but in the end, Tiago Violas and Michal Lasko did an excellent job on service. Daniel Plinski managed to save some match balls of Jastrzebie, but not for long – Skra lost another game this season (they lost also with other strong teams of PlusLiga – Zaksa and Resovia) and Lorenzo Bernardi and his team enreached their account with 3 points.

Jastrzebski Wegiel – Skra Belchatow 3:1 (26:24, 20:25, 25:12, 25:23)
MVP: Michal Lasko

The last game of this week turned out to be a huge surprise. Polish champion Asseco Resovia lost with Delecta Bydgoszcz and didn’t get any points for this round. Stephane Antiga is still showing his mastership of volleyball by scoring most difficult points. A great support also came from Dawid Konarski. In Resovia only Zbigniew Bartman showed a pretty good game, but the rest of players had significant issues in most elements. Generaly, Resovia is not doing very well so far and Andrzej Kowal was not satisfied with attitude of his team. “If any of my players think that every game with a bit weaker opponent is easy to win, that means that he doesn’t give enough respect to the championship of Poland” – he said a mad on the press conference.

Delecta Bydgoszcz – Asseco Resovia 3:1 (26:24, 25:20, 21:25, 25:15)
MVP: Michal Masny
