Real Reason Why King Of The Ring Was Cancelled as A Pay-Per-View

Former WWE Producer Brian Prichard appeared on a recent episode of ‘Something to Wrestle with’ and talked openly about his career in WWE.
He was asked about the idea for the winner of The Royal Rumble to go on to face the Champion and main event WrestleMania, and claimed that was his idea, but as well as building up The Royal Rumble pay-per-view in less than four weeks time, he was also asked about The King of The Ring Pay-per-view and why it was so prematurely cancelled.
He said: “Vince McMahon didn’t like it. It was probably our lowest sales pay per view of the year, which is crazy because in the territorial days, the summer months were money months and for WWF the summer months were slower months. The Pay Per Views during the summer didn’t do all that well, and King of the Ring wasn’t a large grossing pay per view, so Vince wasn’t really excited about it, and decided to change it up.”

The event has since been brought back as a Network exclusive event, something that WWE now has the power to do with many of their earlier ideas, now that The Network has become such a huge hit with the WWE Universe.
