WWE & Netflix Teaming Up For New Live-Action Family Film, ‘The Main Event’

WWE Studio and Netflix have announced a collaboration for a brand new live-action film called The Main Event, starring several top Superstars including The Miz, Sheamus and current WWE Champion Kofi Kingston.

A press release issued this afternoon confirms that the project will be helmed by television director Jay Karas, based on a screenplay by short film writer Larry Postel. Joining WWE Superstars in the cast will be Seth Caarr (Black Panther), Tichina Arnold (Everybody Hates Chris), and Ken Marino (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Marry Me).

According to PWInsider.com, The Main Event has gone through several changes since the original screenplay, which was originally based on a bullied child who gained super-strength by eating some kind of special John Cena-branded cereal. The plot will now follow “an 11-year-old aspiring wrestler who discovers a magical mask and enters a competition to become the next WWE Superstar.”

Production begins immediately in Vancouver, British Columbia with WWE eying a worldwide release on Netflix at an undetermined point in 2020.
