‘Knowing Cristiano’ – Man Utd legend thinks Ronaldo will be ignoring Neville’s phonecalls

Cristiano Ronaldo and Gary Neville’s former Man Utd teammate Rio Ferdinand thinks the Portuguese striker will ignore the phone if the Sky Sports pundit gives him a ring.

Before Sunday’s Premier League clash against West Ham United, Ronaldo brutally blanked Neville after saying hello to Louis Saha and Jamie Redknapp.

It was similar to when Ronaldo ignored Jamie Carragher before August’s home match against Liverpool.

The 37-year-old clearly does not appreciate when pundits are critical of him, and it is obvious he watches Sky Sports, or at least someone in his inner circle does.

Carragher has been highly critical of the Real Madrid legend ever since he re-joined Man Utd last summer.

Neville, on the other hand, has not been too critical of his former teammate and the man who played directly in front of him for six years.

However, after the Portugal captain refused to come off the bench against Tottenham Hotspur last month and walked straight down the tunnel, Neville has not stuck up for his mate.

And quite rightly so. Many other former Man Utd players, like Rio Ferdinand, Roy Keane and Patrice Evra, have all stuck up for Ronaldo despite his ridiculous behaviour.

Ferdinand, who is probably still close with Ronaldo, has had his say on the beef between Neville and the current Red Devils striker.

The former England defender thinks Ronaldo will be ignoring any calls made by Neville and has hinted that their relationship will have completely deteriorated as a result of the pundit’s criticism.

“I don’t think Cristiano is taking that call [if Neville calls him],” Ferdinand said on his Vibe with Five podcast.

“Knowing Cristiano it’s gone, isn’t it? You’ve said what you said and believe what you believe,” the former England defender explained.

“I think what I would have done differently if I was recreating that scenario, I would maybe have gone and shook a couple of hands and said: ‘You talk too much, see you later’ and then gone. Just a little jab in there.

“They would have [crossed paths], [Neville] would have gone to the gantry straightaway, you’re not going to go and search out someone when you’re preparing for a game.

“I see why people are saying he didn’t need to do that but from a player’s perspective, no player is happy when a pundit is criticising them.”

After Neville was snubbed, he was mocked by his Sky colleagues Micah Richards and Jamie Carragher.

Carragher tweeted: ‘Welcome to the blanked by Ronaldo club @GNev2.’

While Richards posted a video on social media of Neville, with the former Man City defender asking, “how does it feel to be blanked by your mate?”

Neville responded: “It tells us something though… it means he is watching.

“I think if I had 570 million followers on Instagram, I wouldn’t be arsed about Gary Neville! He doesn’t behave like someone who has played with me. Or him [Roy Keane] for that matter!”
