Branco van den Boomen says he could leave Toulouse on a free this summer

Speaking to L’Équipe, Toulouse midfielder Branco van den Boomen (27) says that there is a possibility that he may leave the Ligue 1 club on a free when his contract expires this summer.

The Dutch midfielder is a key element to Toulouse’s success. Last season, he registered 21 assists and scored 12 times in Ligue 2. Although he is yet to score in Ligue 1 this term, he has already registered four assists in 10 appearances in France’s top flight.

However, his future is uncertain with his contract expiring this summer. Asked whether he wants to play at a big club, or be a big player at a potentially smaller club (like Toulouse), he replied, “I would like to be able to reconcile the two, see what my limits are. Why not play in European competition? That is also possible with Toulouse. We will see. We will have time to talk about it during the break for the World Cup.”

Asked if it was possible that he would leave the club on a free this summer, he responded, “Yes, it’s possible, of course. Like with Brecht (Dejaegere) and Stijn (Spierings), we’re all coming to the end of our contracts.”
