Man Killed, Cop Hospitalized From Gloucester County Shooting: AG
WESTVILLE, NJ — A shooting killed a man and hospitalized a police officer Friday afternoon in Westville, according to state authorities. The New Jersey Office of the Attorney General is investigating the incident.
The shooting occurred at about 12:45 p.m. on Doman Avenue, the Attorney General’s Office said. The man, a civilian, was wounded and then pronounced dead. Officials took the officer to the hospital, where they’re receiving medical treatment as of 5 p.m. Friday.
The AG’s office withheld the identities of the officer and decedent. But a neighboring agency, the Gloucester Township Police Department, posted on social media, “Please keep our brother from Deptford Township Police Department, who was shot earlier today, in your prayers.”

The wounded officer is in stable condition at Cooper University Hospital, according to Gloucester Township Police Chief David J. Harkins.
The incident was contained and no longer presents a danger to the public, according to the Gloucester County Prosecutor’s Office.

The Office of Public Integrity and Accountability within the AG’s office is reviewing the incident, pursuant to a 2019 state directive requiring an independent investigation of criminal cases involving police use of force and in-custody deaths.
The AG’s office declined to release additional details as the review is ongoing. The agency typically reveals more details about such encounters, including the identities of officers involved, several weeks after its initial announcement of the investigation.
