Olivier Giroud broke Thierry Henry’s record of most goals for France on December 4. The feat was achieved in the FIFA World Cup 2022 Round of 16 match vs Poland.
Giroud gave France the lead in what would be a 3-1 win for the defending champions. The World Cup is going well for Giroud. In 2018, he did not score even one goal and was not even part of the original squad for Qatar.
But Karim Benzema was injured and it opened up a spot for the striker.
The 36-year-old scored his 52nd international goal and went past Henry. When it was over, he said that this record meant his childhood dream had come true, as per News18,
“The adventure continues. We had said in the dressing room that to live such a great experience we needed to be united, be as one,” Giroud said, according to News18.
“My wife and my kids are here, as well as my childhood friends, it’s a childhood dream come true to beat Titi (Henry). Now it’s done, I’m putting this behind me and my obsession is to go as far as possible with this team,” he added.
France face England in the quarters. They won the World Cup once before 2018 and that was in 1998. England’s only title came way back in 1966.
