Mayor Asks East Brunswick BOE To Refer More Student Volunteers To Town
EAST BRUNSWICK, NJ — During summer many students hit the road for a trip or headed to the beach to enjoy their time off. Others squeezed in some volunteer work.
Now that school is all set to reopen, students will be looking for more volunteer work, and according to the Township, there are many opportunities for those who seek them.
During the last Board of Education meeting, East Brunswick Mayor Brad Cohen spoke to the Board, urging the school district to refer more interested students to help through volunteer work.

The Township currently has many projects that could benefit from student volunteer participation, Cohen said.
“We want to bring to the Board’s attention that the Township has a lot of things that we could use some help with. Often the only way we may know about it is through you, because students come to you first.,” Cohen said.

“If you know we are in need of help, we could find out where some of the students are located and sign them on to a project that could work for their Bar Mitzvah or Scouts projects.”

Cohen noted that he often sees students doing projects in areas out of town, when in fact, the Township offers several volunteer opportunities that they are unaware of.
Many East Brunswick students are already participating in Township Board, commissions and councils. Adding more student volunteers will only go on to boost young people’s representation.
“I think it helps them recognize that politics and things that matter most in life are not TV but their own towns,” Cohen said. “We encourage them to be part of that.”
Students who are looking for volunteer opportunities can call the Township Mayor’s Office or the Recreations and Parks Office.
