Waltham Fields Community Farm, City Reach License Agreement
WALTHAM, MA — Waltham Fields Community Farm has secured a temporary answer to questions about the future of the farm’s home.
The City Council approved a license agreement for the farm by a unanimous vote, allowing the farm to continue operating at 240 Beaver St. until at least Dec. 31, 2024.
This allows the farm to use the more than 21 acres of land to grow, harvest and distribute food for a rate of nearly $8,500 per year, or $400 per acre.

The decision comes as a momentary sigh of relief for the farm, though there are still aspects they hope to get sorted out.
“While we wait to reapply for a greenhouse building permit, we are deeply grateful to you, our community, for your support on this journey,” farm officials said on social media.

In the meantime, this decision was important because, if the council decided to pass the proposal to committee, it would have potentially delayed planning for the 2024 season.
There are still moves to make between the farm and the city when it comes to the longterm future of the property, however.
“We still look forward to meeting with the City in the near future as previously planned to continue the dialogue on the long-term vision of the site, and creating a long-term agreement that will allow the property at 240 Beaver Street to flourish for years to come,” farm officials said.
