Sit-Down Restaurants In North Elmhurst? Some Exist

ELMHURST, IL – North Elmhurst has sit-down restaurants, but it needs more, an alderman said this week.

At a City Council meeting last month, Alderman Michael Bram said the north side “desperately” needed a sit-down restaurant. That is something with which Bram said his northside Ward 3 constituents would agree.

In an email to Patch on Monday, Bram acknowledged sit-down restaurants were already on the north side. But he said some have closed over the years, including Christopher’s, Mimmo’s Pizzeria and Steven’s Steakhouse.

“My comment (at the council meeting) was meant to encourage the city to continue to look for sit-down restaurants like the former Bailey’s as an example to supplement what we have on the north side today,” Bram said. “I enjoy the fast-casual, sit-down and fast food restaurants that are currently on North York, but in my opinion, in comparison, there is a deficit of sit-down restaurants compared to fast food/fast casual.”

Bram said he could think of only three sit-down restaurants on North York Street – Mangia Napoli Pizzeria, Charm Thai BBQ and El Famous Burrito.

During the council meeting, another official countered that north Elmhurst had a sit-down restaurant – Pho Lime at 561 N. York St. But Patch discovered that restaurant was listed as “temporarily closed.” A phone message to the eatery was not returned.

After the story about Bram’s previous comments appeared, Eddie Longobardi of Mangia Napoli Pizzeria, 940 N. York St., reached out to Patch in a Facebook message. He said he and his family were “heartbroken” because they considered their business a sit-down restaurant.

“We are family owned and operated,” Longobardi said. “It’s my mom, and three brothers and I. We all work at this establishment, been here now going on for 6 years. We love Elmhurst and love being here and supporting the community.”

In response, Bram said he considered Mangia Napoli a sit-down restaurant.

“Mangia Napoli knows that I enjoy their restaurant since I visit regularly,” the alderman said.
