Proposed 16-Pump Gas Station At Beaumont Walmart Under Scrutiny

BEAUMONT, CA — Traffic concerns could halt a proposal to construct a gas station with 16 fueling spots in the Beaumont Walmart Supercenter parking lot.

During the 6 p.m. Sept 11 Beaumont Planning Commission meeting, the commissioners will weigh city staff’s recommendation to deny an amendment to the Beaumont Retail Partners Specific Plan for the gas station use, and deny a plot plan and conditional use permit for the project.

According to city documents, staff is concerned that adding a large gas station in the Walmart parking lot will add to “high levels of congestion in the area,” including the major transit hub along 2nd Street in front of the proposal.

In addition to the 16 fuel pumps, the project calls for a 440-square-foot kiosk, a canopy, and three underground fuel storage tanks on the north side of 2nd Street, east of Commerce Way and west of Highland Springs Avenue.

The project applicant and property owner is Walmart Real Estate Business Trust, according to city documents.
