Renovated Golf Driving Range Opens At H. Smith Richardson In Fairfield
FAIRFIELD, CT — There is still a bit of punch-list work to be done, but Fairfield unveiled its newly renovated golf driving range near the town-owned H. Smith Richardson Golf Course this week.
Located at 500 Hoydens Lane in Fairfield, the 25-bay range opened Tuesday, and it is now heated and covered, meaning golfers will be able to practice year-round.
Additionally, the bays now feature Toptracer technology, which can track the flight of a ball and offer players useful data points about their stroke.

More improvements are coming to the range, including new protective netting, lights, and new chipping and putting areas.
On Tuesday, Fairfield First Selectman Bill Gerber, Selectwoman Christine Vitale, Parks and Recreation Director Anthony Calabrese were joined by town and golf officials at a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the renovated facility. Click here to view photos.

According to the Toptracer website, there are nearly a dozen golf facilities in Connecticut that use the ball tracking technology, but some of those are private, members-only clubs, such as the Patterson Club in Fairfield and Aspetuck Valley Country Club in Weston.
A bucket of 55 balls at the Fairfield range costs $10, and a “warm up bucket” of 22 balls costs $5. The ball machine now accepts credit cards; the facility switched to credit card-only payments this year.
The range is open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., with “the last ball sold” at 8:30 p.m. On Mondays at 5:30 p.m., the ball machine will stop dispensing balls until 8 a.m. on Tuesdays, which will allow for maintenance crews to cut the grass.
