Rollover Crash With Gasoline Spill Injures Driver In Bay Shore: FD

BAY SHORE, NY — A rollover crash on Sunrise Highway caused a gasoline leak and sent a driver to the hospital early Friday morning, Suffolk County police told Patch.

According to police, two vehicles were traveling in the right and center lanes on Sunrise Highway by Saxon Avenue when a third vehicle attempted to pass the two vehicles in between, striking both. The vehicle in the center lane, a Dodge Ram, overturned and started leaking gasoline.

Islip Fire Department crews responded to the scene around 12:40 a.m. after police requested a “rush for a vehicle leaking fuel,” officials said. The fire department said the occupants of the overturned Dodge Ram self evacuated from the truck before crews arrived.

Fire crews and SCPD’s emergency services section contained the fuel spill. A representative from the Town of Islip HAZMAT TEAM was on scene to assist and a notification was made to the NYS DOT and NYS Department of Environmental Conservation, the fire department said.

The truck’s driver was transported to South Shore University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries by Exchange Ambulance of the Islips, police said.
