TV Star, LI Native Asks Fans To Help Sayville After Raging Fires
SAYVILLE, NY — A good witch is trying to help Sayville.
Melissa Joan Hart, the star of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch,” is asking fans to help Sayville rebuild after a brutal blaze ripped through Main Street and ravaged numerous beloved local businesses in her hometown on Oct. 25.
The Sayville native took to social media to ask her followers to donate to an online fundraiser organized by the Sayville Chamber of Commerce.

In an Instagram post, Hart asked for help, writing:
“The town I grew up in Sayville, New York had a devastating fire yesterday and many small businesses suffered big losses. I’m donating to the chamber of commerce to help them get back on their feet hopefully in time for the busy holiday season.

“I know every small town has their own local community they want to donate to but I also know a lot of my friends and classmates still follow me and might want to help out our little town. 💜💛”
Around 5:30 p.m., flames that broke out in the old Cafe Joelle and quickly spread to surrounding businesses including Paper Doll Vintage, Boris Barber Shop, Sayville Running Company, Hammer & Stain, and the Counseling Offices of Adrian Fields & Associates, according to the Sayville Chamber of Commerce.
Multiple fire departments assisted with extinguishing the blaze, including Sayville, West Sayville, East Islip, Islip Terrace, Bohemia, Bayport, Holbrook, Blue Point, North Patchogue, and Patchogue fire departments.
According to officials, it took firefighters around two hours to put the flames to rest and no injuries were reported.
With some establishments damaged and others destroyed, the community is quickly finding the strength to begin rebuilding efforts, including the online fundraiser and an upcoming event at The Wayward.
