Sweet Ashley's Opens For Season In Norwalk Under New Ownership
NORWALK, CT — Sweet Ashley’s Handcrafted Ice Cream officially kicked off its 2023 season Wednesday, opening its doors to customers for the first time this year under new ownership.
Frank Lanzo, who recently purchased the store with his wife, Judie, said Wednesday afternoon while serving up scoops of ice cream that a number of eager customers had already visited the store for its opening day.
“Social media has helped us out quite a bit, and our website,” Lanzo said. “The power of social media is huge. I’ve got a lot of friends in the community who are helping support and spread the word.”

He also noted he was getting used to making the store’s ice cream the same way the previous owners had made it for 30 years.

“It’s not hard, just time-consuming,” Lanzo said, “but we’ve got the right tools.”
Since 1992, Sweet Ashley’s has been serving a wide variety of inventive flavors of handmade, small-batch ice cream throughout the spring, summer and fall months from their East Avenue store.
While discussing his vision for the store under his ownership earlier this month, Lanzo told Patch he had no plans to change the way their ice cream was made.
“Customers can rest assured,” Lanzo said, “I’m training with the previous owner to make sure all the recipes are the same.”
Judie Lanzo said they decided to go with a wide assortment of opening day flavors, which included returning favorites like Strawberry Cheesecake, Cookie Monster and Swamp, as well as new vegan and dog-friendly flavors like Peanut Butter Banana and Strawberry Dream.
Lanzo also noted he was working on a new flavor, Nutella Banana, that should be available in a few days.
Though the store is now open, a grand reopening celebration is planned to take place May 6 at the store.
Most of all, the new owners are happy to finally be open and welcome customers inside the store as they look forward to a good year.
“It’s great,” Lanzo said. “I’m excited, I really am.”
