Sheriff's Office Dedicates New Patrol Hub To Beasor B. Walker

TUSCALOOSA, AL — Tuscaloosa County Sheriff Ron Abernathy on Wednesday announced that the Beasor B. Walker Law Enforcement Complex will officially open next week.

Patch previously reported that the land on Investigator Dornell Cousette Street was initially acquired by the county from the state Board of Education, before a plan was formed to relocate the TCSO Patrol Division from its former airport hanger location to the new site.

Work began on the project in the spring of 2021, with an estimated total price tag of $1.2 million.

The new facility was tailored to the needs of the sheriff’s office, Abernathy pointed out, with new amenities relating to evidence, along with a new crime lab

Abernathy also praised the efforts of Chief of Administration Alex Miles and Chief Deputy Loyd Baker for seeing the project through to completion, which comes as the sheriff’s office is also working on extensive improvements to the Tuscaloosa County Jail.

Baker was hired as a detention officer by Sheriff Walker in July 1986 — two years before Walker hired current Sheriff Ron Abernathy.

Walker is one of the legendary figures in Tuscaloosa County law enforcement history, serving for nearly two decades after he returned home as one of the most decorated war heroes the county has ever seen for his service in World War II.

Walker was first elected in 1970 and served five terms before retiring in 1990, hiring many future administrators and leaving an indelible mark on the office.

He died in 2013 at the age of 91.

Abernathy said a ceremony will be held on Thursday, Nov. 9, to commemorate the opening of the new hub for the TCSO patrol division.
