Walgreens Announces Latest Round Of Layoffs: Spokesperson
DEERFIELD, IL — Another round of layoffs has been announced at Walgreens, this time 145 team members, primarily from the Deerfield company’s corporate workforce. A spokesperson for the company confirmed with Patch a Tuesday report from Crain’s Chicago Business, who had obtained an internal memo regarding the layoffs.
The spokesperson said Walgreens Boots Alliance, the parent company of Walgreens, has made progress on a $1 billion cost-cutting plan, but it still has “significant cost savings and growth goals to deliver.” The layoffs, and roles impacted, come from a range of departments. WBA said it offering the affected employees severance and outplacement services “during this difficult time.”
WBA, headquartered at 108 Wilmot Road, oversees 9,277 Walgreens and Duane Reade stores in the U.S.

The move follows a November decision to lay off 5 percent of WBA’s workforce, or 267 jobs. The company had announced the prior month it would be implementing cost-cutting measures to the tune of at least $1 billion. In May 2023, 504 corporate positions, or 10 percent of the corporate workforce, were eliminated.
