Paul Pogba can become the Premier League’s best player in the next two season, says former Manchester United defender David May

Former Manchester United defender David May believes Paul Pogba can become the best player in the Premier League.

United have not seen the best out of Pogba since his £89million transfer from Juventus in 2016.

He has, though, started to come to life under caretaker boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer of late, with four goals and three assists in his last four Premier League matches.

“He’s only still young and I think in the next couple of years you’ll start seeing the more mature Paul Pogba,” said David May, speaking exclusively to 888sport.

“He should be running games now and stamping his authority on them and I think in the last few games we’re starting to see a different side to him.

“He’s allowed to go forward and get in the box; he’s creating chances and scoring goals. He could be the best in the Premier League in the next couple of seasons certainly.”

Paul Pogba’s brother claimed Jose Mourinho was the reason behind the midfielder’s struggles at Manchester United.

The 25-year-old was a key player when France won the World Cup last summer but couldn’t replicate that form under the now sacked Mourinho.

This looks like it could change under Solskjaer.

May said: “Over the last three or four games we’ve seen more mature performances from Paul Pogba and he’s starting to run games.

“There is every chance he will do that at Spurs. And that’s what you want from him. You don’t want him taking the ball off the centre-halves. You want him higher up the pitch where he can influence things. He’s doing that.

“As too does Dele Alli, who is a very good player and he’s started to do that. It will be a hell of a battle with Eriksen in there too but United are on the up, won five on the bounce, and they’re full of confidence.

“It will be a really interesting match to see how far United have come from Jose to Ole.”
