Shaktikanta Das, A Postgraduate In History Is The First Non-Economist RBI Governor In 3 Decades

In what came as surprise to many the government has announced the name of former finance secretary and current member of the finance commission, Shaktikanta Das, as the governor of the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

The government has thrown its weight behind the retired IAS officer, with Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley saying “Shaktikanta Das has been a very senior and experienced civil servant. He spent almost his entire career in the management of finances and economic management of the country.”

“I think he has the right credentials, he has been extremely professional and he has worked under various governments.”
