Celtic transfer news: West Brom starlet Oliver Burke makes loan switch… but Baggies sporting director rules out move becoming permanent
Celtic have signed winger Oliver Burke on loan from West Brom until the end of the season.
The 21-year-old Scotland international became the most expensive Scottish player ever when he joined the Baggies for £15m from RB Leipzig in August 2017.
He has five caps for his country and has featured 21 times for the Baggies.
However, he hasn’t started a Championship match this season, making just three league appearances as a substitute.
The former Nottingham Forest man will join up with Brendan Rodgers’ squad in Dubai this week for their winter training camp.
West Brom’s sporting and technical director Luke Dowling has ruled out the switch becoming a permanent one.
He said: “To be fair to Oli, there have been a lot of changes at the club since his arrival which have not helped him
“The opportunity to join a club of Celtic’s stature on loan was felt by everyone to be the best pathway to help develop his career.
“Oli liked what Celtic had to offer and he has obviously got the opportunity to play on a great stage which should be of benefit to him.
“I would stress that there is no ‘option to buy’ clause at the end of the loan and he will be back with us at the end of the season.”
