Islamic State Officially Accepts Defeat In Syria, To Give Up Last Pocket In Damascus

In a big boost for pro-Assad forces in Syria, the Islamic State militants have agreed to give up their last pocket in Damascus on Friday, state media reported, and now the government plans to retake the entire capital in its control for the first time since 2011.

The capitulation followed a week of escalations by pro-government forces against the Islamic State-held Hajar al-Aswad neighborhood and Yarmouk Palestinian camp in Damascus.
