Letter To Santa Reschedules Christmas For Working Families

FORT HOOD, TX — A Texas mom has penned a touching letter to Santa asking him to reschedule Christmas for parents who have to work the holiday. Stephanie Davisson, of Fort Hood, came up with the idea after she found out her husband Brent, who is in the Army, will be working Dec. 25.

“As all of you know, the holidays can be a rough time for families like ours- juggling shift work (which I’m so glad Brent doesn’t deal with anymore!), on-call hours, deployments, TDYs, etc. and ‘normal’ holiday events can get quite hectic. And no matter what, our amazing kids just push on through, sharing their parent(s) with us all,” Davisson wrote on Facebook Dec. 11. “This year, it’s likely Brent will be working on Christmas Day, so we’ve decided to have Christmas the morning of the 24th, when we can all be together. I typed up a letter from Santa Claus, just for these special kids, and wanted to share it with y’all, just in case.”

Davisson’s Facebook post has since been shared more than 58,000 times. It has also collected more than 3,700 comments. Inspired by the letter’s popularity, Davisson crafted a few other letters for families who have loved ones that work in the airline and medical industry.

“I’m shocked at humbled at the reaction this simple letter has gotten; it was just a simple effort to keep the magic alive for my kids, and I had no idea it would go on to bless so many families,” Davisson told Patch. “If it’s been a blessing to you, please pay it forward this holiday season.”
