MIDTOWN MANHATTAN, NY — The Trump Tower apartment located directly beneath President Donald Trump’s penthouse has hit the market for $24.5 million, according to real estate listings.
The duplex apartment is located on the Fifth Avenue skyscraper’s 64th and 65th floors and features five bedrooms and five-and-a-half bathrooms, according to a real estate listing with Dolly Lenz Real Estate. The 6,144-square-foot home features south-facing views of the Chrysler and Empire State buildings.
Trump’s triplex penthouse occupies the tower’s 66th, 67th and 68th floors. Trump Tower is a condominium building, which means a potential buyer wouldn’t have to be approved by the building like in a co-op development.
To guard against any purchase of the apartment for nefarious means — such as spying on the president’s personal home — the Trumps may consider buying the unit and then selling it to a legitimate buyer, real estate sources told the New York Post.
“What is to stop the Chinese or the Russians from buying the apartment under a front, and then drilling spy holes in the ceiling to listen to the conversations and goings-on?” the source told the Post.
While living below the president may provide a great fun fact, the residents of Trump Tower have experienced frequent inconveniences since the 2016 election. When the first family stays in New York City the residential tower essentially becomes a fortress swarming with security. Taxpayers spending around $150,000 per day for the tower’s NYPD and FDNY security detail when First Lady Melania Trump and son Barron stay at the tower and $308,000 per day when the president is in the city.
