WWE NXT Results – September 5th, 2018

  This past Wednesday’s episode of NXT featured an outstanding main event match between two of the very best in NXT: Johnny Gargano and The Velveteen Dream, but the rest of the show was also rather memorable. The investigation into who attacked Aleister Black has been kicked into full gear, a new tag team debuted, and some big matches and feuds are on the way very soon. This week’s show kicked off with one of NXT’s newest competitors taking on the most experienced man working in Orlando today: Kassius Ohno.
Kassius Ohno vs. Kona Reeves –
  Very cocky attitude from Reeves early on in this match as the Full Sail University crowd was very much against the young Samoan wrestler in this matchup. From the start, it seemed obvious that fans were seeing a different Kassius Ohno on this night since he was so relentless on Reeves during this match.

  Reeves posed and taunted in the ring before getting a little too close to the face of NXT’s “Knockout Artist.” He caught Kona right in the face before connecting with a knee to the head. Reeves tried to get back into the match but ultimately could not keep up with Ohno’s intensity. He got Kassius up for the Hawaiian Drop, but Ohno countered the move and got back to his feet. Almost instantly, he charged after Reeves with a Rollling Elbow to get a very quick and dominant win.
Winner: Kassius Ohno
  After the match was over, Ohno grabbed a microphone and talked about the lack of success that he has had in NXT lately. He noted that there was a lot of buzz when he returned to NXT in 2017, but then it slowly went away. Ohno knows that there will always been someone newer who comes in, but that will only encourage him to be the first man to meet that new NXT Superstar and immediately send him tot the back of the line. With new stars such as Keith Lee and Matt Riddle getting situated in NXT right now, perhaps a possible feud against one of those two could be on the way for Kassius Ohno.
The Street Profits vs. The Forgotten Sons –

  Wesley Blake, Steve Cutler, and Jaxson Ryker are known as The Forgotten Sons in NXT. The trio have been wrestling at NXT live events and they pleaded with William Regal for the opportunity to wrestle on NXT television last week. Regal granted their request, which is why The Forgotten Sons made their NXT in-ring television debuts during this very show against Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford of The Street Profits.
  The Profits both start off strong by landing a few moves and slams before sending Blake and Cutler outside of the ring. Ford charges after them and hits a dive on his opponents. Dawkins then came in and began to work over Cutler in the middle of the ring, and Ford did the same whenever Angelo would tag him in. The dynamic shifted after Blake took control of the match with a dropkick. When Steve Cutler came back in, it was he who got the chance to wear down Montez Ford.
  Both Blake and Cutler spent some time each making sure that they were beating down Ford while also not allowing him to get anywhere close to his tag team partner on the other side of the ring. Cutler took his eyes off of the prize for just a moment to tag in Wesley Blake, which provided Ford with just enough time to muster the strength to dash over and tag in Angelo Dawkins. Dawkins came in and laid waste to both Blake and Cutler with some splashes in the corner of the ring, as well as some strikes and stiff shots.

  Angelo Dawkins went up to the top of one of the ring posts in the corner to execute a frog splash, but the new NXT team were able to grab the Street Profit and send him into the steel ring steps outside the ring. Ford continued to battle and nearly got the pin on The Forgotten Sons until two mystery men wearing black masks ran in and broke up the pin. The Street Profits chased them and unmasked them to reveal that they were Shane Thorne and Nick Miller of The Mighty.
  Jaxson Ryker had been standing outside of the ring watching Blake and Cutler fight, but with no one around to see him, Ryker used that small opportunity of freedom to get involved in the match and run down Ford. He tossed Montez back in the ring, which allowed for Steve Cutler to get tagged back into the match and hit a kneedrop DDT for a win in their NXT debuts.
Winners: The Forgotten Sons
  General Manager William Regal asked Otis Dozovic and Tucker Knight of Heavy Machinery if they had any information as to who attacked Aleister Black. Otis cracked under the pressure and admitted to breaking the toilet in the WWE Performance Center. Fortunately, Regal informed him that that is not the reason why they were called into his office. Unfortunately, the Heavy Machinery members said that they did not know who attacked Black for sure. All that they could see was Tommaso Ciampa standing by the bushes nearby when it happened. Regal then dismissed the two of them from his office.
  After Ricochet accidentally dove onto his tag team partner Pete Dunne and cost them a chance to defeat The Undisputed Era last week, the UK and North American Champion were arguing backstage. Dunne says that he has been champion for over 400 days while Ricochet hasn’t event been in NXT for five minutes. They challenged each other to a match to see who the better man is and that match will be taking place on NXT in two weeks.
  A short video package for The War Raiders aired with Rowe and Hanson both claiming that “a new era” has arrived in NXT, clearly setting up for a tag team title match against The Undisputed Era at some point in the near future.
Kairi Sane vs. Trish Adora –
  Sane has ditched the spinning captain’s steering wheel in her entrance, but she now opens up a small treasure chest on the stage and removes the NXT Women’s Championship inside of it. Sane made her way down to the ring while tossing out some coins that she also kept in the treasure chest.
  Kairi is now the NXT Women’s Champion, so it made sense that she was absolutely destructive in this match while barely even allowing Adora to get in any sort of offense on her. Sane dished out not one, not two, but three rolling neckbreakers in a row on Trish and also gave her big blows to the face. Sane was moving at the speed of light and would not stop hitting either the boots or fists on her opponent.
  Trish gave the champion only a few punches before Sane launched towards her with a spinning backfist. Sane followed that up by hitting a double footstomp from the top of a ring post in the corner of the ring. It was all over for Adora once Sane shoved her down in the corner and hit a sliding elbow strike. The end was already near for Trish Adora, but she was definitely finished once the new women’s champion went up top and successfully connected with the Insane Elbow drop.
Winner: Kairi Sane
  Kairi’s victory celebration was short-lived as former champion Shayna Baszler came out on the stage and shoved Sane’s treasure chest down to the ground. Baszler told Sane to enjoy her fantasy title reign because she will win back the title during their rematch. She made her way down to the ring and began to brawl with the new champion. Baszler had Sane down in this melee, but Kairi fired back up and hit a spinning backfist followed by a spear. Baszler then decided that she was in no mood to continue fighting and she angrily walked to the back.
  Tommaso Ciampa appeared backstage to cut a promo using his own camera. With the NXT Championship around his shoulder, Ciampa said that he no longer has a number one contender now that Aleister Black and Johnny Gargano have been taken out of the NXT title picture. Ciampa claimed that he is the greatest sports entertainer alive, and also mentioned that he no longer cuts promos in front of the live crowd because he is sick of listening to the opinions of the fans. Ciampa says that he is currently at the tod of the food chain and that everyone should follow his lead.
  Lars Sullivan was up next for a chat in William Regal’s office. Sullivan has a history with Black and was seen on the original attack tape, so of course, he was asked if he was involved in the attack in any way. Sullivan says that he was there to find Black and pay him a visit, but by the time he arrived, Black was already laid out in pain. Lars said that he did see The Undisputed Era drive away from the building not long after the beatdown took place. Sullivan also says that Black would have been out for much longer if he attacked him, just like he did last week to EC3. Regal says that EC3 still isn’t ready to wrestle just yet, so Sullivan will face Raul Mendoza on NXT next week.
Johnny Gargano vs. The Velveteen Dream –
  Velveteen Dream came down to the ring wearing a “Johnny Wrestling” shirt with the word “Failure” written over the word “Wrestling,” which is a direct reference to The Velveteen Dream referring to Gargano as “Johnny Failure” during a promo on NXT last week. These two had the chance to go after each other and settle their differences in this match.
  The Dream mocked Gargano but the former NXT Tag Team Champion shoved him down to the canvas. Gargano took him down and began to display some of his technical wrestling skills. Velveteen Dream went up to the top of the ring post in the corner almost out of desperation to get a move in, but Gargano elbowed him right back down. The aggressive side that Gargano has been displaying lately was back on tonight as he gave Dream some boots in the corner repeatedly.
  The Velveteen Dream came after Gargano at all sides and all angles, but Johnny had an answer for just about every move he made. Gargano was able to out wrestle Dream and keep him from getting the upper hand early on. The Dream fell outside of the ring and felt a kick from Gargano when he tried to reenter the squared circle. Outside the ring, Gargano dished out some chops to The Velveteen Dream as he tried to scurry away from a furious “Johnny Wrestling.” Back in the ring, Dream was able to catch Johnny and bounce him neck first onto the ring ropes, thus providing him an opportunity to finally get going in this match.
  Dream went right to work after that with some kicks in the corner and punches on Gargano. He sent him crashing into the corner of the ring after that, and hit a neckbreaker for a two count. With Johnny down resting in the corner, Dream leapt up into the air and came back down on him. Dream then tried to put Gargano away once again with a roll-up this time around, but that was not enough to give him the win. He applied a sleeper hold on him next as the crowd encouraged Johnny to rush back up to his feet and continue the fight.
  Once again, Dream went up to the top, but Gargano was able to nail him in the face with a forearm and then instantly hook on a twisting DDT. Near the outside of the ring, Gargano hit the Slingshot Spear, which scored him a two-count. Now firmly back in control, Gargano tried to keep his momentum going by Irish Whipping Velveteen out and onto the ring apron. He sent Dream crashing down to the floor outside with a superkick before running after him with a cannonball.
  Back in the ring again, Gargano hit a forearm on Velveteen. The Dream tried to land a kick on Gargano, but he dodged the move and hit a famouser. Velvey was able to move out of the way from a middle rope launch from Gargano. He tried to get Gargano down but he countered. Suddenly, Dream manipulated “Johnny Wrestling” and got him onto his shoulders for a Dream Valley Driver. Alas, Gargano fights out before he goes through with the maneuver. Using all of his strength, Gargano sends Dream down to the canvas but only lands a two count. Velveteen Dream, also drained of all energy, is barely able to place his arm around Gargano, but he does so anyway, only to receive a near fall.
  Now these two warriors are giving it all that they have. Both men are fighting on the ring apron. Dream tried to set up a Dream Valley Driver again, but Gargano muscled out of it and hurt already injured right knee in the process. Dream was able to send him into the steel ring steps and hit a DDT back in the ring for a very close near fall.
  Velveteen then began to target the right knee of Johnny Gargano and both men hit some kicks on the apron. Johnny ultimately got the better of him and dodged a top rope dive from The Velveteen Dream. Gargano then went back in the ring and did a dive onto The Dream outside. Johnny the decided to lock Dream in the GargaNo Escape while they were both still outside of the ring. A tapout here would have been no good since neither of them were in the ring. The referee began to count both men out, and it took Gargano a few moments to recognize that the official was counting. It was almost as if he was trying to decide if taking a countout loss was worth it just to inflict more damage on Velveteen Dream.
  Gargano ultimately got himself back in the ring while Dream was just barely able to get back in before the referee counted to ten. Johnny then places Dream’s feet on the middle rope and attempts to go for a draping DDT, which is a maneuver that Tommaso Ciampa has used to defeat Johnny Gargano in the past. Velveteen Dream did get out of the move and wandered his way back into the ring.
  With an opening now in sight, Gargano lowered his knee pad just as he did at NXT Takeover: Brooklyn a few weeks ago and ran after Dream at top speed. Sadly for him, it turned out to be a trap as The Velveteen Dream scooped up Gargano and connected with a Dream Valley Driver in order to defeat Gargano and score what is perhaps the biggest victory of his career so far.
Winner: The Velveteen Dream
  After the match was over, Dream made his way to the back while Gargano slowly rose to his feet in the ring. There was a divided reaction from fans as about half changed “Johnny Failure” while the other half still said “Johnny Wrestling.” Gargano sat in the ring visibly disappointing in himself for not only losing the match, but for letting his obsession and emotions get the better of him yet again. Without making eye contract with anybody and without a saying a single word, Gargano left the arena near the announcer’s area as the show faded to black.
  NXT delivered another home run with this show, especially with that fantastic main event. It is certainly going to be intriguing to see where this current storyline will end up taking Johnny Gargano, but we still also have the Aleister Black mystery still looming on. Ricochet and Pete Dunne will clash in another can’t-miss match in a few weeks, so there is definitely no denying that there is a lot to look forward to on NXT in the next couple of weeks.
