News on Why Baron Corbin Lost his Money in the Bank Cash-In Match

Last night’s Smackdown show ended in memorable fashion when Baron Corbin surprisingly cashed in his Money in the Bank briefcase five days before his SummerSlam match against John Cena. Perhaps what was even more shocking was the fact that Corbin lost the match. John Cena managed to provide a quick distraction and then Jinder Mahal rolled Corbin up to retain the WWE Championship. The whole ordeal happened in just a matter of seconds and some fans have begun speculating as to why WWE pulled the plug on a championship run for Corbin. Why did he lose? Is Baron Corbin injured? Does he have backstage heat with anybody?
Baron Corbin is now the third superstar to cash in the Money in the Bank contract unsuccessfully. Plenty of fans did not believe Corbin was ready to win the title anyway, including the Wrestling Observer’s Dave Meltzer. When a fan jokingly asked Dave on Twitter last night if he was the reason why Corbin did not win the title (due to a recent exchange between the two sides on Twitter,) Dave stated he was not responsible for the decision, but actually Smackdown stars John Cena and Mojo Rawley helped contribute to the company’s decision not to put the top belt on him. Dave Meltzer did not give any more specifics to the situation other than that.
While Meltzer kept his answer brief and vague, Cageside Seats has since reported that Rawley and Cena do appear to be at least partly responsible. The report mentions that WWE officials did not think Corbin looked good during a verbal exchange with Cena a few wees ago. Baron Corbin also got into a scuffle with Mojo Rawley over Twitter earlier this month and this apparently did him no favors. It still seems as though there is more to this story. It is unknown if officials have completely lost faith in “The Lone Wolf” or if they are slowing his push down, but we will be updating this story as new developments continue to get out.
